Overland Park's best kept secret . . .

Shawnee Mission School District offers an amazing culinary program for their high schools. These classes are held at Broadmoor Technical School located off of Metcalf on 83rd Street. The students prepare & serve incredible gourmet meals at their Broadmoor Bistro.  This is a must try  -  reservations are required!

Olathe's hidden gem 
Les Arts Culinaires is a top-notch culinary program offered through 21st Century High Schools for juniors and seniors of the Olathe School District and surrounding areas. One Friday night each month, October through April, the students showcase the culinary skills they have learned in their restaurant located at Olathe North High School. Reservations are required!

Want to Increase Your Dessert $ales?

Mary at Rookies Bar & Grill  in  Florissant, Mo., ran a contest for her servers. The person who sold the most desserts by the end of the week earned a free dinner!

What a great idea! Keep the prize simple - a drink, a free lunch or dinner, or how about a pie of their choice? The possiblities are endless! It's a real win-win situation for your restaurant and for the server. Remind them - the larger the sales ticket, the bigger the tip!

held in honor of thirty three years of service at JP Morgan! Dale with ARAMARK in Kansas City featured Golden Boy's Turtle Brownies & Lemon Bars as the desserts on the buffet luncheon recently held at JP Morgan.

Teri at Missouri State University's Catering Department - Springfield, MO showcases how she uses our Cheesecake to make a stunning dessert bar! By ordering Uncut Cheesecakes (and using a lot of creativity) she has created a fun & playful yet elegant dessert! In this display she has used our Sunsational Lemon, Double Fudge-Topped, Turtle, & Strawberry Topped Cheesecakes. Your choices are endless to make a fabulous presentation!

Half Sheet White Cake with Buttercream Icing
Shades of Pinks & Ivory . . .
are the colors for this special wedding day! Golden Boy's round White Cake with Buttercream Icing is decorated with fresh daisies and gerbera daisies then topped with the newlyweds' monogram. The back of the cake had a special surprise for the bride & groom - their custom printed M&M's! The half sheet cake is decorated with M&M's (which were custom ordered for the special day) & dusted with edible pink glitter. Simple & pretty just perfect for a summer wedding - Great job Sue!

HELPFUL TIP - when cutting a sheet cake a piece of dental floss will make a nice clean cut!


Kudos, Chef Sam & Staff
  
Executive Chef Sam Austin, of Claridge Court in Prairie Village, Kansas, sets high standards for himself, as well as his well-run & well-staffed kitchen. The pictures below show the care and creativity that goes into plating desserts for the residents.

In January 2010, the Greater Kansas City Chefs Association held its seventh annual ice carving competition. Chef Sam was one of sixteen participants in this year's Winter Ice Fest. His whimsical carving (at right) clearly shows this year's theme, "Winter in Paradise", and won him the honor of placing second!

Congrats, Chef Sam! Keep up the good work you do in and out of the kitchen!
